Minnesota's Expo Journey

The World’s Fair Bid Committee Education Fund promotes international expositions – both in the US and beyond. We do this in three ways.

First, we encourage governments to be actively involved in supporting international expositions, including membership in the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), the inter-governmental body that coordinates global exhibitions, including many of the World Fairs held in the United States over the past 100 years. In 2017, we convinced our federal government to rejoin the BIE after a 20-year absence.

Second, we promote private-sector participation in expos. Sometimes this is via organized delegations to expos taking place around the world. Sometimes it is through special events like our “Friends of Minnesota” celebrations at Expo Milan and Expo Dubai. Similar activities are planned for upcoming Expos - Doha (2023), Osaka (2025), Izmir (2026), Belgrade (2027), Yokohama (2027), and hopefully Lodz, Poland.

Third, we support efforts to bring officially sanctioned expos and exhibitions to the U.S.A. For example, the World’s Fair Bid Committee Educational Fund financed Minnesota’s applications for hosting Specialized Expos in 2023 and 2027. We are now campaigning in support of Minnesota bid to host a World Horticultural Exposition, often called a Global Green Expo.
